The Disorganised Attachment/Borderline Personality Disorder Theory: Part One - ANGER
Children with disorganised attachment:
- Are hypervigilant and often misinterpret innocent or even kind actions as threats.
- Lack emotional regulation, and often have emotional outbursts, particularly of anger and fear, over very minor issues.
- Often appear to lack empathy and self-awareness. Sometimes seem ‘emotionally numb’.
- Often try to control the people in their lives.
- Are very sensitive to perceived disrespect. Do not give others the benefit of the doubt.
- Have little reason to trust authority figures, including parents, teachers and counsellors.
Those with Borderline Personality Disorder suffer from:
- emotional instability due to reactivity of mood
- chronic feelings of emptiness
- intense, inappropriate or uncontrollable anger
NOTE: only diagnostic criteria applying to the ‘anger’ aspect are noted in this post. Sources: Daniel Hughes, DSM IV, Ron Frey
